Week 3

Week 2 pasted and week 3 shown up. This week we were continued our presentation. Our group also presented on that day.

We selected two importance points to present are:
- Multilingual system
- Social Engineering.

After we presented, there are many more groups did the presentations. My lecturer managed to finish the student’s presentations in that week. During other groups presented, I noted the problem that most of the groups took to present was virus. The useful thing I got from that day was I could know many more problems that related to IM. The problems that I noted that day are:
 - a lack of personality
 - Poorly train authors
 - Large network traffic problems
 - Education and computer literacy
 - Information overload.

My presentation I'll post it at the end of of this article. Please take a look.

Next day, Miss Nisha continued the lecture by teaching us about Computer.

What is Computer?
Computer is a programmable machine/device that carries out what it has been instructed to do

Computer operation:
Basic operations that a computer can perform:
       Input
       Processing
       Output
       Storage
Others :
       Communication

Evolution of computers
Pre computers and Early Computers (before 1940s) is Abacus – earliest recorded calculating device.

1.      First Generation (1940-1950) : Vacuum Tube
. 1ST Electronic compute: ENIAC [1945]
. UNIVAC [1950]

2.      Second Generation (1950-1964) :: Transistors
The most computer: IBM 1401
. High level languages (COBOL: COmmon Business-Oriented Language and FORTRAN: formula translator)

3.      Third Generation (1964-1974) :: Integrated Circuits (IC)
Integrated circuits (microchip) combines thousands of transistors, entire circuit on one computer chip.
4.      Fourth Generation (1974-Present) :: VLSI / ULSI
. Fourth Generation computers are the modern day computers
. Integrated circuits (microchip)
            - VLSI = Very Large-Scale Integration
- ULSI = Ultra Large Scale Integration
5. Fifth Generation (now and the future)
. Based on artificial intelligence - computers can think, reason and learn (robot and computer we use nowadays).

Categories of computers
Categorize based on size, capability and price.
  1. Embedded computers: A minicomputer embedded into a specific product for a specific function.
  2. Mobile devices/ computers: Small computer that fits on your hand, contain built-in computing or Internet capabilities.
  3. Personal computers: Fully functioning portable or desktop computers, designed for a single user at a time.
  4. Midrange servers: Physically likes small cabinet, hosting data and programs available to a small group of users.
  5. Mainframes: Is a large, expensive, very powerful computer that can handle hundreds or thousands of connected users simultaneously
  6. Super computers: The fastest, most powerful, and most expensive category of computer.
Extremely powerful computers used for complex computation and processing.
